Last year Magis Women offered “Lent at Home”, a free and engaging mini-retreat for you to experience in the privacy of your own home during the lenten season. Because of the overwhelmingly positive response we received, we are once again offering this special gift to you - a Lent at Home self-guided online mini-retreat based on the Magis Women study The Merciful Journey: Feminine Perspectives on the Way of the Cross (a Special Edition study guide developed by Magis Women based on books and articles written by Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D.).
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, this 15 part mini-retreat (emailed to you on Mondays and Wednesdays during Lent) will provide a completely different experience than last year’s Lent at Home. Based on a thematic and uniquely personal approach to each station of the cross, you will be prompted to journey through the Way of the Cross by placing yourself into the scene of the scripture stories (imaginative prayer). Your retreat will end during Holy Week, when you will be invited to take your mini-retreat with you as you pray the Stations of the Cross at a location of your choice and read (out loud if possible) the scripture and the corresponding “imagine” section at each station as a form of Ignatian contemplation.
Fr. Spitzer tells us that: “The essence of Ignatian contemplation is to put ourselves into a scene with Jesus and to enter into his actions and discourse of Jesus with His disciples, so that He might speak to us as He spoke to them and that we might see His love as His disciples saw it. If you believe that Jesus is the One, that He is Emmanuel, the Unconditional Love of God with us; that He has redeemed us by His blood, loved us into salvation, and gives us an eternal life of love and joy through our mere belief in His loving and forgiving heart; then it is now time to probe that heart more deeply through various Gospel scenes, where we can see His love for His disciples manifest in their love and trust of Him.” Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D., Five Pillars of the Spiritual Life, page 123.
